The forgotten Re-volt concept arts.

Unread post by RV_Passion » Thu Dec 24, 2020 10:30 am

Back at 1997, Anthony Rosbottom was managing the Concept Art Department at Probe Entertainment. The concept artist Neil Maguire was there twice for a short time to helping the development team with his ideas of cars for Re-volt.

His first concept arts came at the beginning of June.

The next ones came during October.

But his car ideas couldn’t be used for the game. The problems was their style, the low set limit for polygons and no later release date. At the end, Neil Maguire made no more concept arts for Re-volt and not enough fresh concept arts came to the development team. So the Concept Art Department was disbanded and Anthony Rosbottom went to the team to finish Toyworld 1 and 2.

Now to the question, how I found out about these concept arts?

Well, several years ago, I accidentally found an article about a playstation auction from the Playstation Museum itself, where they offer their complete property. One part of it was the Re-volt concept arts from Neil Maguire. But this auction was 2007 and the only clue that I’d found about them was a picture where the yellow bus with the red wheels was to see. I thought this huge auction was successful, but it wasn’t. These concept arts reappeared in an auction at March 2020 and this offer came from the Playstation Museum again. I’d ask Neil Maguire himself if this concept arts are really from him, just to be sure. And yes, they were.

So, this is my and RV_Pures Christmas gift for the community. A so far unknown chapter from the Re-volt Development Time and several real pieces of Re-volt history.

A special thanks goes to Neil Maguire, Paul Phippen and Anthony Rosbottom for their informations.
