Re-Volt Ripping a vehicle from another game for use in RVGL

Unread post by TheTechMeister » Fri Jun 27, 2025 8:33 pm

How can I extract a vehicle's model for usage in RVGL, and then set the parameters on the vehicle along with installation of the antenna just like every other vehicle in Re-Volt?

To begin with, let's use Twisted Metal 2 (PS1) as an example. I have the ROM on my PC; how can I extract a vehicle model?

I think getting a model from a game requires different tools for different games, probably. I do not have experience with it myself. I think you might be able to get further if you already have a model. For example, from https://models.spriters-resource.com/. This site does not currently have the Twisted Medal 2 models, however.

I used NinjaRipper 1.7.1 for extracting tracks (for cars worked too) from RC Cars. Generally you either have to rip the models with some external tool when they are loaded in-game (like NinjaRipper or any other ripper and similar tool) or import them from game files, but the files would have to be readable and/or unpacked. For example, you can't directly read and open Re-Volt's files (even though they're not compressed/packed), but you can import the files into Blender with a plugin made by people from this community and it's a direct 1:1 import, not even a rip. Every game's different, especially that old games don't run on some widely known and widely used engine but very often proprietary ones.
