Hi everyone. After seeing the thread about stock-like tracks, I realized it’s time to bring up the topic of stock-like custom cars. I’d like to ask for recommendations for custom cars from each rating that stylistically fit the stock ones.
Many custom cars, including those from packs, like IO Cars, don’t appeal to me stylistically. They either feel too over-designed or stand out too much because of HD textures and shaping, etc. In my opinion, they don’t match the look and feel of stock cars.
No offense to these mod creators, but I’m specifically looking for cars that blend in with the stock cars.
Can you recommend anything like that?
Thanks!
Stock-like custom cars recommendations
Re: Stock-like custom cars recommendations
It's kinda crazy to see this, because back in 2016, when the original packs came out, the main goal was to introduce stock-like custom cars to the game, which wasn't really done much before. Ironically, despite that that goal, the pack was even less stock-like than it is today, because the selection of cars was pretty narrow and very few modders actually went for the stock-like look before then. Stock-likes exploded in popularity from that point on, but the scope of the pack also shifted from adding the most stock-like content to adding high quality, reasonably balanced content (though there is still some degree of stock-likeness needed, at the very least having them pass for R/C cars and no visible interiors).
I still would like to have a pack that feels more like a proper expansion to the original game (as was my original vision, but that made way for what was needed for the online community, which is arguably more important), so maybe keeping track of the most stock-like content would help.
Also, in terms of HD textures at least, see if there are any cars that seem alright to you if you just reduce the texture resolution to 256x256. I remember that working in the past for some cars. Personally I remember also trying the opposite—increasing the resolution of stock car textures to 512x512 instead, because I was more concerned with consistency and didn't mind increasing the quality because stylistically things remained the same.

Re: Stock-like custom cars recommendations
Thanks for the response.
I mean, some of those custom cars, both standalone ones and those from packs, are stockish (they look like stock cars, but not entirely). I think some of them could reasonably pass as an expansion to the original game. Still, I’m not really sure why, but something in my brain keeps noticing that something isn’t quite right with custom cars. Only a small number of custom cars don’t trigger that reaction for me.
As you mentioned, textures aren’t really the problem, since they can be adjusted. For me, it’s more about the overall shape of the model and how it’s constructed that creates this feeling. Being so used to the stock cars, even a very small or seemingly insignificant difference, like a slightly different spoiler shape or style on a custom car, can be enough to put me off.
No offense to the mod creators; everyone has different tastes. I’m just looking for something different.

You mentioned a small number of custom cars don’t trigger that reaction for you. Do you think you could make a list of them? When it comes to something subjective like this, it can help put things into perspective better.
