Playing on Mac OS

Unread post by ChickenChest » Thu Apr 16, 2020 9:03 am

Like some of you, I have loved Re-Volt since I first played a pre-release demo in 1999! I still have my original CD but I have since made the switch to Mac for business reasons. How can I play this amazing game on a Mac? I especially want to show my kids and create some skins.

I've searched online but the information doesn't seem current and/or links are broken.

Thank you! I'm hoping to be able to join this community more fully.

RVGL runs well using wine: https://wiki.winehq.org/MacOS

You can also use something like wineskin which is relatively easy to set up: http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tiki-index.php

When I installed Wine on my macbook, I followed this cool tutorial ;) https://www.davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/

You can skip the "install windows programs" part, since RVGL is portable and all you need to do is unzip it!

If you download RVGL, and play it using wine, you can still play online (you need to join by IP).

I haven't tried online yet, I had it on my mac since version 17.x so I think most likely it was without the shaders, the gameplay was pretty smooth, right know I put in it the latest rvgl 20.0325 and it became terrible wine gives at the most opengl 2.1 it pauses a lot like if the game were super heavy and my computer was win 98, I'm running the mesa drivers and not the xquartz as suggested in the installation of wine, so I am just using wine skin, hope others don't have this problem and it's only me, can you verify?

Have you tried turning shaders off? You can do that in profiles/rvgl.ini. Look for the line "Shaders = 1", and change it to 0, of course!

Yeah that did the trick now it's playable. Still the performance was better on version 17.x (eg when there is 16 cars the drawing is affected notoriously on market 2) any other performance trick?
