The Re-Volt Hideout opens for all Re-Volters!

I'd like to invite everyone to join The Hideout, a new old-school forum that aims to replace the old Re-Volt Pub.

What happened:
Back in July 2017, Tapatalk acquired Zetaboards and zIFBoards (formerly InvisionFree) which ORP was hosted on. Following the acquisition, all hosted boards were scheduled to be migrated to a new forum software: Either ZetaBoards or TapaTalk.
They started rolling out these changes a few months ago, prompting admins to choose between ZetaBoards or TapaTalk. The exact options looked like this:


ZR reported that he received a notification a while ago. He had the choices shown on the screenshot. Note that a migration will definitely happen at some point. For now, he chose to defer the change.
If admins didn't respond to that notification, a migration to TT was automatically started without notice. This is what happened with ORP yesterday.
Most likely, Jigebren and TheMeAndMe were the only admins who got notified. However, they've both been inactive for years.

The change sadly can't be reverted. The only option would be to talk to the TapaTalk support to manually switch the software to ZetaBoards which is at least somewhat similar to the old InvisionFree boards.

If you're looking for a place that feels like the old ORP, you're welcome to stay and make yourself comfortable. More importantly, this forum is self-hosted and not in the hands of a big corporation.

This is saddening to hear. I hope it will be possible to switch to Zetaboards, which could actually be considered an upgrade. It would definitely be much more possible to lessen the damage to the forum functions and appearance than it would be with TapaTalk.

Regardless of what happens, this place should make a reasonable alternative to Our Re-Volt Pub (especially if a move to Zetaboards would prove impossible).

It's about time we had a self-hosted forum anyway. The lack of control over our content and database was an issue already brought up by jigebren before. The recent events provide a valid excuse to make the jump. I just wish there was a way to import ORP database.

I believe the forum (re-volt.io server actually) needs https support going forward. Has Marv looked into integrating Let's Encrypt?

I'll definitely look into Let's Encrypt. I've been wanting to do it for a while now and since we're dealing with user accounts on two parts of the website now, it's about time.

Maybe Vaid could check if there is a way to download a backup of ORP since he has some administrator rights now.

Unfortunately I couldn't find anything of that sort in there.

The only thing I can think of is ripping the whole website with a third party tool.

Back in the day before ORP got started we had Racers Point, aka ReVolt Downloads, and that forum was jam packed full of tools, tips and creations not to mention insightful information exchange. But when this site was coming to an end, due to admin not wishing to extend or upgrade, people tried to store and move the contents to another forum, but it all came to nothing sadly. But the community lived on at ORP and thrived until now.
My point is that may be a fresh start is what's required.
I will keep the home fires burning as long as I can within my abilities, so don't dismis this place totally.

The problem I see with Discord (and also am facing myself) is that you just can't keep up with it. If you've been gone for a while, you can't just skim through the most recent topics and stay up to date. There are some important topics that some people might miss out. Some people might also find it easier to converse on forums.
There's something for everyone but I think it's good to disperse the activity out to a few more platforms.

Discord is fantastic for hanging out with fellow Re-Volters, but I personally wouldn't mind bringing some activity back to the forums.They are a lot more nice and tidy in comparison, which can be particularly useful for more in-depth discussions on various important matters. Archiving things also works out a lot better, which could be relevant in the future.

Posting game suggestions or potential bug reports in the Discord also doesn't really do a lot usually... so I suppose it's good for that also!

So, what's the official acronym for The Hideout? TRH, TRVH? RVH is already acquired. I'm sure in Discord or RV House, an acronym will be used in most cases, when referring to the forum. (Like ORP, RVL)

It sounds a bit clunky, but I'd suggest TRH or RHO.

Calling Re-Volt just by R doesn't really click for me. I would go with either RVHO or TRVH.

However ORP was already ORP... so as Marv suggested: TRH or RHO. The latter for me.
