With the new replay features the latest patch brings, I thought it'd be nice if we could save replays of time trials as well. The option would save your latest completed run. Perhaps there could also be an (optional) feature where your run is automatically saved if it is your fastest one yet.

This is a good idea. This would also make it easier to share fastest laps at future hotlap competitions.

This'd be handy for the TimeTrial topic as well (depending on HUD visibility)

It's sort of already done (.laplocal files). They store path of a car and best time with player name. The format, as we know, is for showing the ghost car. Probably not as precise as the current replay system, but I'd be fine to be able to view it as a "replay" instead of saving a new file. Why create new when it's already done? Just in slightly different internal format (actually idk how different it is from a typical replay).

I remember there was a program that showed .laplocal files outside of Re-Volt, and had an option for viewing multiple ghosts at once.

That was one of Kay's tools, and it was for a competitive event
